Let's talk about dates...the ones you eat 😉

Fasting

If you’re reading this and thinking…

“Why in the world is she talking about fasting when she literally sells a cookbook?” 😂

Hear me out.

I’m not just here to encourage you to eat differently.
I’m here to encourage you to live differently.

At The Olive Press Homestead, this has never been about food alone. It’s about learning. Researching. Asking better questions. Understanding how our bodies were designed to function.

If you truly want to take ownership of your health, you have to be willing to study, to dig deeper, and to challenge what you’ve always been told.

And I’m genuinely so proud you’re here doing exactly that. 🤍

What Is Fasting, Really?

Fasting simply means intentionally going without food for a set period of time.

It’s not a trend.
It’s not new.
It’s not extreme when done thoughtfully.

For centuries, fasting has been practiced for spiritual, cultural, and health reasons.

And modern research is beginning to explore why.

What Happens in the Body During a 24-Hour Fast?

One of the most talked-about processes related to fasting is something called autophagy.

Autophagy is a natural cellular process where the body:

  • Breaks down and clears out damaged cells

  • Recycles dysfunctional cellular components

  • Supports cellular renewal

In simple terms?
It’s like a built-in cleanup and recycling system.

Research suggests that autophagy increases when the body experiences nutrient deprivation for a certain period of time. While timelines vary depending on the individual, longer fasting windows may stimulate this process more significantly.

Isn’t it incredible how intricately our bodies were designed by God? Truly AMAZING.

But Let’s Be Wise

Before anyone jumps headfirst into fasting, let’s pause.

Fasting is not appropriate for everyone.

You need to consider:

  • Your current health status

  • Medications you may be taking

  • Blood sugar regulation

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Past history with disordered eating

  • Proper hydration and electrolyte balance

If you have medical conditions or take prescription medications, speak with your healthcare provider before attempting extended fasting.

Preparation matters. Education matters. Listening to your body matters.

So Why Talk About This on a Food Blog?

Because health isn’t just about what we eat.

It’s about understanding:

  • When to nourish

  • When to rest

  • When to give the body space to repair

  • And when to seek guidance

Encouraging you to cook real food and encouraging you to understand your body are not contradictory.

They go hand in hand.

I want you empowered in your kitchen.
I want you empowered in your health decisions.
And I want you asking deeper questions.

That’s the heart behind this.
